Principles of design serve as guidelines for combining elements of design to create attractive garments. 
Proportion, balance, repetition, emphasis or harmony comprises the POD.
  1. Rhythm: Repetition or visual beat. [1]
  2. Emphasis: A principle of design, which is used for highlighting a certain part in garment design.[1]
  3. Balance: refers to the distribution of visual weight within a composition or creating a sense of equilibrium. [1]
  4. Gradation: Collecting elements with gradual changes. [1]
  5. Proportion: Relationship of certain pieces to the whole and to each other. [1]
